Workwear Wednesday

  • 29.10.2014, 16:40

Hello my loves! I've decided to do more workwear posts because guess what??! I have decided to go back to work starting this Monday. After having worked quite intensely the past three months, John will take over what is left of my maternity leave and I am heading back to work at Varier Furniture a little earlier than planned. John and I spoke about it earlier this week and baby James is doing so well. He is happy, vocal and social so I'm not scared to leave him with his dad. Also, John is truly an amazing father. He wants to take James to "open nursery" for babies (the parents have to be there with them the whole time), baby swimming, and long walks. I have to admit that I have been trying to juggle everything at the same time and almost bouncing off the walls at home. I am lucky to be working in Norway where the working conditions are great and there is a huge understanding for having to juggle parenthood with careers so for me this just seemed like a natural choice. It is not for everyone, but it works for us. :)

Reima Baby

Here is some Taco on a monday! As you can probably tell from my silence, life has been a little bit hectic the past few days. Taco has also been a mini hurricane... in the best possible way! He is two weeks away from turning 6 months old now and he is on the verge of crawling. Time flies, and soon he will be terrorising the apartment! I'm not sure if I am ready for it!

James is wearing a fleece suit and the cutest knit beanie from Reima

The Hair Situation

  • 22.10.2014, 21:11

So a lot of you have been asking about my hair in emails and comments so here is a giga-entry dedicated to my barnet. I hope you enjoy! And yes, I am a bit of a freak when it comes to hair maintenance! I am well aware as people give me strange looks when I pull out my electric hair brush.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

1. I LOVE Toni & Guy shampoos and their NOURISH Reconstruction mask. I'm also quite happy with the L'oreal Elvital Range that you can find everywhere. Coconot oil also does wonders.

2. I always comb through my hair in the shower after I put on my conditioner/hair mask (from the bottom working my way up) to get out any knots. This ensures that each strand is covered in product. I then wash my hair out with lukewarm water.

3. I try to trim my hair about 1 cm every 4-6 weeks at my local hairdresser in order to keep my hair looking its best.

4. My hair is almost my natural haircolor now at the crown, except for some highlights that I got using foils. I wanted the teeniest tiniest little highlights ever, and just around my face. I brought a picture of Miranda Kerrs hair as inspiration. My tips were done myself with a box L'oreal Wild Ombre. Not recommended unless you are brave! If you are brave enough there are tons of tutorials on Youtube that explain how to do it.

5. Whenever I brush my hair, I brush my hair from the bottom up, carefully getting rid of any knots as I work my way up.

HERE IS MY NATURAL HAIR BEFORE I CURL IT

As you can see I have a bunch of flyaways as baby Taco just loves to pull my hair and rip it out (ouch!). I've also lost A LOT of hair after pregnancy and I cannot use the normal hair supplements that I use until I stop breastfeeding. At this point I've learnt to embrace my hair as it is, flyaways and all, as I feel it looks a bit bohemian and less polished (in a good way). My hair will get back to its usual thickness eventually... hopefully...

HOW I CURL MY HAIR

I dont use any special products in my hair when I curl it. I usually just wash my hair and then wait until the next day to curl it. That way the curls stay longer and my hair strands aren't weighed down by product or leftover humidity. If your hair is sensitive I do recommend a good heat protector.

First things first, I tie my hair up loosely and pull out the hair that I want to curl.

I then brush my hair with my Braun Satin Hair hairbrush to smooth out the hair shafts (a regular brush works too)

I use the Hot Tools Professional 1110 Curling Iron with Multi-Heat Control, Mega 1-1/4" which I bought on Amazon from America. I bought an American to European adaptor for it at Clas Olson. The key is to get quite a thick hair curler. I just love using this one!

I always clasp the hair curler pretty high up on my hair and pull my hair through it to smoothen out the hair strands and give my hair extra shine.

I pull the curler down to almost my hair tips and then I roll the haircurler INWARDS (towards me).

Once the hair is rolled up high enough, I count to fifteen slowly and then I pull the curler downwards as I release the hair.

Voila! A perfect ringlet. Now I just repeat this with all of my hair.

As you can see, this creates quite tight ringlets that will eventually relax.

The final thing I do is to carefully brush my curls together with my ionic hairbrush. I then 'mould' my hair with my hands and wind bigger chunks of hair together for the desired look.

In the last picture my hair is still quite 'freshly' curled. As the day goes on the curls get looser and more natural looking. Every time I need my hair to look glossy I just brush through it with my hairbrush. This brushes out any messiness. This hairstyle usually lasts me about three days before I have to wash my hair.

I hope this entry helps! Feel free to shoot me any more questions in the comment section! ♥

Dancing with the Stars

  • 19.10.2014, 09:56

I've been getting some good feedback about sharing a few bits and pieces from my personal life so here are some shots from last night. STYLISTA Benedicthe invited me to watch Skal Vi Danse (the Norwegian version of Dancing With The Stars) and I had SO.MUCH.FUN. I've been nagging her like crazy cause I seriously love this show and dance to it alone in my living room every saturday night. Benedicthes husband is a dancer on the show and yesterday him and his partner Agnete scored full tens. They are by far the BEST dancers on the show. Yesterday I had the sniffles and a sore throat but after running in the rain to make it to the show and screaming like a crazy person during the show I now officially have a full blown cold. I dont care! I loved every second of it! This is the longest that I have left baby Taco alone with John (from 18:30-22:30) and it went really well for them! I came home and John was really proud of having put James to bed by himself. All in all it was a really good day.

Happy friday from us! Here is a shot of Lene Orvik, Espen Hilton, By Benedicthe, Juliane, Benedicthes son Theo, Svein Bringsdal and Kristoffer Myhre taken with the iPhone shutter release.

Basically all you have to do is download the Olympus app for free on your iPhone, follow the setup instructions to connect your Olympus and now you can SEE what is being taken a picture of on you iPhone screen! All you have to do is press the button on your iPhone screen, or even just the screen to take your pictures! So much fun!

Olympus Snapshot of the day

  • 16.10.2014, 19:59

I spent some time in studio today with fashion photographer and editor of SVA Magazine Svein Bringsdal so that he could teach beautiful Benny, Lene OrvikEspen Hilton and I how to use our Olympus cameras to take even better pictures. I also learnt how to take pictures using my iPhone as a remote shutter release! It's selfie time! This shot is of Svein teaching Benedicthes adorable son how to take photographs. I will show you what was in front of the camera soon.

James' first swim

I've been told that I should share some more personal pictures once in a while so here are a few snapshots from today. James had his first swim and he had so much fun! He could not stop smiling afterwards and slept so well.

Postcard from the South

  • 12.10.2014, 19:23

Here is a snapshot from today. My little family and I are in the South of Norway to visit James' grandparents! Tomorrow we are planning to go swimming with James at Aquarama in Kristiansand and I have to admit that John and I are more excited than James (who obviously doesn't understand what Aquarama is yet). I am sure that he will love to swim as he just loves his baths.

Magic Wire

Sponset Opphold

Vintage Triumph underwear! So pretty.

the new Magic Wire bras

Hey girls! I just spent the most amazing day in Copenhagen with Moteguri and Henriette to learn more about the new Magic Wire bra from Triumph. All I can say is that I am a complete convert. Here is a shot of me trying one on from my instagram account. I seriously didn't know that my boobs could look like that! Most importantly, the bra is really comfortable. Basically, Triumph has developed a bra that has replaced that super annoying underwire that digs into your ribs with a silicon 'wire' which is then embedded in foam. You don't feel any digging pain and your boobalas look like something out of a nineties Guess commercial. We have a winner!

My first 'real' bra was actually from Triumph. I was about 14 years old and SO INCREDIBLY PROUD. I hardly took it off.  I think I may have slept with it on the first few months. I do remember it having an annoying underwire to 'support' my A cup (non-existent) breasts.

Now that I've had a baby my boobs are actually a DD/E cup. I just found that out today! That is insane. No wonder I've been in pain, I've been stuffing my girls into way-too-small bras. The next time that you need to buy a new bra I seriously recommend that you try one of these new Magic Wire ones because not only will you be standing in front of the mirror entranced by your décolletage, you will also be so comfortable that you will not want to take it off.

Copenhagen Tomorrow ✈

  • 09.10.2014, 14:46

Tomorrow I am heading on a day-trip to Copenhagen! I thought I would share what is coming with me in my carry-on luggage.

1. Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil from Clarins which I use on any dry areas from travelling. Also on my cuticles! It smells like a spa and really calms me down.

2. l always bring along a travel-sized perfume. Petite Flowerbomb from Viktor & Rolf is an absolute favorite.

3. I am bringing two different types of face sprays. Yes, I know I am crazy. The Fix Make-Up from Clarins refreshes my make-up and makes it last longer, while the Thermal Spring Water Mist from La Roche-Posay feels amazing on my face on the airplane and when I am feeling extra tired.

4. Last but not least is my Clarins Lip Perfector. It keeps your lips beautiful and moisturized all day.

PS: Isn't this see-through travel bag for liquids briliant? I got it at H&M and it it makes the security check at airports much easier.

Some Thoughts

  • 02.10.2014, 21:48

Life has been pretty hectic lately. I feel like I share so much of baby James on this blog but in reality if I shared how much my days revolve around him this blog wouldn't be about fashion any more. It would be baby-world. As all-encompassing as it is, I love to watch him grow and develop. I do not want to miss a single moment. September has been a big month for him. He has eaten his first baby food, taken to rolling from his back to his tummy (which is hilarious because his arm gets stuck under his body and he lies there like a flopping fish trying to remove his arm from under his body weight), he has started drinking water from a sippy cup and he has started trying to sit unsupported. I say 'trying' because he is still pretty wobbly and cute. James is by far no longer a newborn infant as he is curious about everything around him. He needs a lot of stimulation. Some days I am pretty tired. I am always told that one cannot 'have it all' and in those crazy first months with a newborn I do agree that your own life just has to be put on hold for a while. Your life becomes the baby. But I did continue to update this blog, and I even managed to spend some time at my office to wrap some things up, a feat that is impossible right now... John has been working insane overtime for the past two months which he finally wraps up tomorrow (I hope). Two months of crazy overtime might not seem like much, but when you have a four and a half month old baby and a partner that leaves home before the baby wakes and gets home when the baby is already asleep, two months becomes pretty significant. Luckily, things have been going pretty smoothly with good help from my mom. I survived the two months sans a breakdown, and James and I have become a good team. Some people are frightened of the consequences of having children but despite its hardships, it's a very natural process. I cannot imagine it ever feeling "wrong". The moment that kiddo comes, it's the best decision you've ever made. Being a mother is incredibly fulfilling, maybe even more fulfilling than the things that I am missing out on momentarily. So yeah, I am rambling, but I just wanted to point this out. James has been my everything the past few months, even though this blog doesn't reflect that. And that it isn't that hard. It is a tiring period, but it is the most natural thing in the world. Becoming a mother has made me tougher than I ever thought I could be. And I'm still here. :)
